Electronics Reuse
repair, reuse, recycle!
We repair and recycle used electronic items to keep materials out of landfill and in use.
When possible we extend the life of a product by repairing and upgrading it for resale. This helps cover the costs of the programme.

Why recycle
electronic items?
An estimated 80,000 tonnes of electronic waste is being disposed into landfill in New Zealand each year. E-waste contains rare heavy metals, as well as materials that are toxic to the environment when they break down. It is estimated that electronic waste contributes to 40% of the lead and 70% of the heavy metals found in landfill.
What is electronic waste?
Electronic waste is basically any broken or unwanted electronic or electrical item that you may want to dispose of - think computers, laptops, cellphones, radios, DVD players, speakers, printers, and so on.
We accept anything with a plug or battery, apart from large whiteware and oil heaters.

How is electronic waste processed?
Once electronics are dropped off to our Electronic Recycling Workshop at 6 Vivian Place, Annesbrook (Nelson) - what do we do with it?
Our team of electronics technicians always assess each item dropped off, and the general rule of thumb is that if it’s fixable - we fix it and resell the item in our ReUse Shops. Items that are broken beyond repair are then dismantled to salvage the recyclable components (aka scrap metal & circuit boards for precious metals).
All data on hard drives, storage devices and hand held devices is securely destroyed on site.
How much does it cost to drop off used / broken electronics?
We charge a small fee to cover the costs of electronics recycling. This is to help us cover the costs involved with being able to offer this programme - such as labour, building overheads & utilities, equipment, and parts. View our current pricing here.
We are able to offer reduced fees thanks to support from Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council.
