Nelson Environment Centre is an independent non-profit organisation, with a focus on providing education & impact - for both our environment and community. We offer key charitable programmes that range from preventing & reducing waste to landfill, to providing community food support.
Food for thought.
Our Kai Rescue programme is 100% charitable, and is largely dependent on the generosity of volunteers, grants, and external funding for ongoing operations.
We save good food from going to landfill, and redirect it instead to provide food support to those in need.

Our Hapori Fruit & Veg Box programme provides affordable access to fresh produce for our local community - more important than ever as we experience the stress of inflation and a cost of living crisis.

Education for kids.
Our Education programme is especially focused on helping kids of today understand the impact of waste on our environment. The kids get a blast out of pulling apart electronic waste items and visiting Kai Rescue to learn about food waste.
We find that engaging kids with hands-on learning is incredibly rewarding - not to mention a fun experience for all!
