Waste Education Services. A programme funded through Nelson City and Tasman District Councils and run through the Nelson Environment Centre. Kids Edible Gardens - Nelson (KEGs) is a programme run by Nelson Environment Centre (NEC) which aims to support primary schools to teach students about edible gardening and how this relates to waste minimisation, healthy eating, physical activity and environmental awareness in general. www.nec.org.nz/kegs
Small Planet is a programme funded through Nelson City Council and supported by NEC. The programme is aimed at early childhood education centres.
Enviroschools. The kaupapa of Enviroschools / Kura Taiao is about the well-being of the whole school, community and eco-system. It’s about working out how to live so that our society and economy nourishes the natural systems that give us life. Enviroschools gives young people an opportunity to explore real life challenges and to apply their abundance of energy and ideas. Waimaori Stream Care. This programme raises community awareness by way of monitoring waterways. Waimaori provides knowledge and hands-on experience about the freshwater environment, promoting biodiversity and enhancement of freshwater fish habitats. The programme is funded through Nelson City and Tasman District Councils, Department of Conservation and Tiakina te Taiao.
Brook Waimarama Sanctuary. This is a community-based initiative working to create a pest-free wildlife sanctuary close to Nelson, New Zealand.
Kiwi Conservation Club. For over 20 years the Kiwi Conservation Club (KCC), the junior version of Forest & Bird, has been teaching kiwi kids about New Zealand’s wildlife and wild places. KCC now has over 16,000 members throughout New Zealand who receive our Wild Things magazine. Written by Ann Graeme with cartoon like illustrations by Tim Galloway the Wild Things magazines make topics like Wild Rivers, Marine Reserves and Worms fun for kids. Join the local group to get involved in conservation projects and get the chance to go on trips to explore & learn more about our local environment
